General Information

Language:

The official language at LEC is English and student projects are done and presented in English only.


Keys:

LEC provides key(s) if needed and upon request of your supervisor (deposit of CHF 70). The student carries full responsibility for the key(s) and returns them with no delay. Please contact Marlene Hegner for key requests.


Computer:

Students are supposed to use their own computer and software. Special requests for Hardware and Software need to be coordinated by the supervisor and LEC’s IT specialist () minimum 2 weeks in advance. LEC provides student computers in the front part of ML J 34.2. Students can apply for a login during their stay at LEC and use when needed.


Student room | work space:

Students have access to LEC’s student room ML J 34.2 back part when writing the Master Thesis (upon availability). Please contact Marlene Hegner to enlist and get a key. In case of workplace vacancies, students working on a Bachelor thesis or Semester project can also have access to workplaces. One student occupies one workplace. The workplace must be cleaned up before leaving and the key returned back to Marlene Hegner. The phone installed in this room is for internal use only. If you need to make project related external phone calls, you can use one of LEC’s phones. Please ask Marlene Hegner or your supervisor.


Printer:

Students are not allowed to use LEC printers (including the VPP printer at ML J 31 which belongs to LEC). Please use VPP ML J 34.2 for b/w prints and VPP printer at main building for color prints.


Purchase of material and invoices:

Only your supervisor is allowed to purchase material for your student project and takes full responsibility for the payment. Invoices must be ALWAYS addressed to your supervisor. Expenses for student projects must be approved by Prof. Abhari and your supervisor in advance.


Workshop:

You must coordinate all jobs for the LEC workshop with your supervisor (never directly with the workshop!). Tools and parts are not to be taken away, borrowed or used without prior approval. Machines are NOT to be used without permission of the workshop!


Working alone:

You are NOT allowed to use any machines, tools or facilities alone and without prior approval of your supervisor and/or the workshop members, especially on weekends or late at night. This is for your own safety and must be respected!


Insurance:

It is the student’s own responsibility to have full health and accidence insurance coverage. If you feel insecure about a work you are supposed to do, consult your supervisor or Marlene Hegner first! Do not risk anything.
