Master studies at LEC

Specific conditions to do Master Studies at LEC

Learning agreement:

Within the first three weeks of your first Master semester, you are supposed to fill out your learning agreement in myStudies. The content of the learning agreement will be determined in a discussion with Prof. Abhari. You will receive an email notification once Prof. Abhari approves your learning agreement online.

Changes in the learning agreement need to be discussed with Prof. Abhari first. A change of tutor can only be realized by the first day of the semester and all parties need to be informed on time and agree.

Projects:

The tutor defines potential Semester Projects and Master Theses. New topics for student projects are typically published on our LEC-website, as well as on J-Floor of ML building, by the end of the preceding semester. Master students must choose projects from the LEC offers and are expected to do both Semester Project and Master Thesis at LEC. Students have to sign up for projects under “mystudies”. A Master Thesis takes at least six (6) months. Semester Projects are to be completed within the semester. The project ends with the final presentation.

External projects are generally NOT supported, unless and ONLY when proposed by LEC. No requests for exceptions can be considered.

Meetings:

Students are supposed to meet once per year with Prof. Abhari. Their progress is monitored and adjustments to enhance their performance are proposed.

Presentations:

All student projects include a mid-term presentation as well as a final presentation. The mid-term presentation should give you the opportunity to discuss the most critical aspects of your project with Prof. Abhari. The dates for presentations will be fixed by Prof. Abhari.

Reports:

One or two days before the final presentation, you are expected to submit 2 printed reports and within one week after the final presentation a CD/DVD to Marlene Hegner (ML J 33).

Costs for printing and binding are on one’s own account and LEC printers are not to be used. Please use e.g. VPP printer at main building.

The CD/DVD must include:

  • Report in printable form (PDF)
  • Report in source format (Word, PowerPoint, ...)
  • Final Presentation
  • Important data such as source code of programs, measurement data, important CFD results

(if the size of this data exceeds the size of a DVD, please organize alternative storage with your supervisor)

In case you have any questions regarding the D-MAVT regulations or LEC rules, don’t hesitate to contact the student coordinator of LEC: or Marlene Hegner |
